Congratulations to Chris Mitchell!
The Board of Education unanimously approved Chris as South Middle School’s new principal at last night’s board meeting. Chris will report to South on August 1, 2017.
Chris began his education career in 1995, teaching high school biology and chemistry in Webb City. He has been a Joplin Eagle since 2013, serving as Assistant Principal at North Middle School from 2013-15 and Principal at Jefferson Elementary since August, 2015.
Chris received his bachelor’s degree from MSSU in 1995, a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from SW Missouri State in 2001, and a master’s degree in administration from Missouri State in 2012.
South Middle School serves 570 students and has a rich history of staff and student achievement, student opportunities for extracurricular activities, and parent and community involvement. Choosing the right principal was necessary not only for the success of South Middle School but also for the district. Chris Mitchell is the right fit for this important position. Chris is a positive, driven educator and leader, skilled in motivating students, staff and faculty. He takes the responsibility of educating students seriously and looks forward to leading South Middle School in 2017-18.
