Teacher of the Year

Darren Morgan, South Middle School 

Joplin Schools is proud to announce that this year’s Teacher Of The Year is Mr. Darren Morgan. Darren is a teacher at South Middle School. He began his teaching career at Memorial Middle School in 2008 where he taught 7th grade History. Darren was a 21st Century Coach at Joplin High School for two years. He returned to South Middle School where he currently teaches American History to 8th grade students. Darren is one of the sponsors for the eLeaders at South Middle School. He helps students put together a weekly news broadcast titled The Weekly Digest. Darren also sponsors a Risk Game Club and a Philosophy Club after school.  

Darren is married to Whitney and together they have three girls, Addyson, Aliya, and Amelia.

Darren received his first degree from Ozark Christian College in theology and then his Bachelor of Science in History Education from Missouri Southern State University.

Darren enjoys teaching and the extra time he spends with his students in clubs. He loves spending time with his family, playing the guitar, writing music, and hanging out at the Waffle House drinking coffee with good friends.
Darren's name will go on for Teacher of the Year for the State of Missouri. We want to wish Darren and his family all the best. We are very proud of Darren and the work he does every day.
