Operation Rising Eagle Fund

In anticipation of the continued demand for excellence in education, Joplin Schools has launched a 21st Century Schools Building Campaign “Operation Rising Eagle.” We are determined to come back stronger than ever. We will honor those who perished in the storm by rebuilding schools equipped to carry on the legacy of excellence our community has come to expect.

Joplin Public Schools has made a commitment to create 21st Century learning environments for our students and staff. 21st Century schools will provide flexibility to accommodate multiple learning styles and will better prepare our students to compete in a global economy.

The campaign has two phases. The first phase was to open school on the regularly scheduled date of August 17 following the devastating May 22 tornado (completed August ’11). The second phase is to raise funds to help  replace destroyed schools with 21st century learning environments and to provide matching funds for safe rooms for existing facilities.

The atmosphere in the Joplin community is one of excitement and determination. Parents, students, faculty and staff are extremely supportive of the campaign and are working collaboratively to make things happen!

Completion of the Building Fund Campaign will provide new opportunities to our school and enhance the future of our students and community.

Bright Futures Joplin Fund
Bright Futures is a model of support and communication that allows communities and schools to identify student needs and match those needs with existing resources in the community.  The goal is to meet any child’s basic needs through a rapid response system within 24 hours of identification of that need.  Bright Futures has been successful in doing just that.  May 22, 2011 changed the landscape of the Joplin community forever.  School officials anticipate a higher amount of basic needs to surface this school year and realize there are more limited resources available.

Funds donated to Bright Futures will be used to remove the obstacles that stand in the way of teachers being able to teach and children being able to learn by providing them the basic educational materials and support they need. This could include, but not be limited to, things such as food, clothing, shelter, after school care, school supplies, classroom materials and student transportation to and from school related events. Joplin Schools Snackpack Program
The Joplin Schools Foundation is partnering with Bright Futures Joplin and other community partners to eradicate childhood hunger in Joplin.
