Directions for Applying to be a Substitute Teacher

Substitute Certification
A Content Substitute certification may be granted to an individual who has completed a minimum of 60 college credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university. 


A Substitute certificate may be granted to an individual who is at least 21 years of age, has a high school diploma, General Education Diploma (GED) or High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) and has successfully completed a minimum of twenty (20) clock hours of DESE approved training. Approved training is available here. Training costs can be reimbursed by the District after two full days of working with proper documentation. 

Pay Scale 
  • The daily salary for a substitute teacher is $90.00.
  • Long term assignments: Long term pay is based on consecutive workdays. Days 1-10 are paid at $90.00 per day, days 11-end of the job are paid at $110.00 per day if there is not a break in service during that period. If there is a break in service, pay will drop back to $90.00 per day until the 10th consecutive day is met again.
