Dr. D. Mitchell Stinnett, an honors graduate of Joplin High School in 1964, pioneered the cardiovascular surgery program at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin. Under his leadership, the program was recognized as one of the Top 100 heart surgery programs in the United States by 1999, establishing Joplin as a regional medical center of note. This work and his lifelong commitment to service have left an indelible mark on the region.
Glenda Austin is a 1969 graduate of Parkwood High School in Joplin. She is a pianist, composer, teacher, touring artist, and internationally recognized musician whose influence extends far beyond the classroom and concert hall. Her compositions, such as ‘Classy Caper’ and ‘Lyric Waltzes,’ continue to bring joy to musicians and audiences around the world.
Kyle Craig, a 1965 graduate of Joplin High School and alumni of the University of Kansas and Harvard Business School, spent his career in executive management for Burger King, Steak & Ale, Bennigan’s, Pepsico, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Boston Market, before creating Einstein Bros. Bagels and moving on to become an adjunct professor, leadership consultant and nonprofit consultant.
