Jefferson Elementary Phase 1 Improvements

Overview

Jefferson Elementary was built in 1954, making it one of Joplin Schools’ oldest campuses in use today. Additions were made in 1964 and 1985, with the Safe Room/ Gymnasium added in 2014. It currently houses students from K-5th grades. The Long Range Facility Committee notes that square footage per classroom and program currently falls well below state standard recommendations.

Project Scope

  • Additions for new kindergarten classrooms, 4-yr old classroom, and SPED classroom
  • Entrance security improvements
  • New space for admin offices and staff workroom
  • New finishes in all corridors
  • Renovate cafeteria 
  • Add accessible egress to pick-up and drop-off lot
  • Renovate library
  • Renovate current admin space for nurse and counselor
  • New art and music classrooms
  • Improved space for SPED resource and student support offices 
  • Window replacements
