Directions for Applying to be a
Substitute Teacher

  1. Visit DESE Substitute Teacher Certification to apply for a Substitute Certificate
  2. Once your Substitute Certificate has been issued through DESE, please submit your substitute application here.

Substitute Certification
A Content Substitute certification may be granted to an individual who has completed a minimum of 36 college credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university OR Content Substitute certificate may now be granted to an individual who has successfully completed a minimum of twenty (20) clock hours of department-approved substitute teacher training. Training is now available at the link below. 

Frontline Substitute Teacher Training

 

Pay Scale 
  • The daily salary for a substitute teacher is $105.00.
  • Long term assignments: Long term pay is based on consecutive workdays. Days 1-10 are paid at $105.00 per day, days 11-end of the job are paid at $125.00 per day if there is not a break in service during that period. If there is a break in service, pay will drop back to $105.00 per day until the 10th consecutive day is met again.
