Free Health Screenings

Score 1 for Health is a free health screening program offered in all Joplin Schools elementary buildings, as well as in Kansas City, by Kansas City University (KCU). Screenings are provided by supervised KCU medical students alongside community nursing, dental and allied health students. Screenings include vision, dental, height & weight with body mass index (BMI calculation), blood pressure and a head-to-toe physical assessment.

Permission forms are sent with students near the beginning of the school year; all screenings require a completed permission form.

Following in-school health screenings, Score 1 notifies parents/guardians and school nurses of screening results. In accordance with Missouri’s school health recommendations, Score 1 nurses and staff will provide follow-up screenings if necessary. Score 1 also offers connections to healthcare providers and community resources.
