See it. Hear it. Report it.
Eagles,
Recently, superintendents from several area school districts joined forces to combat the rise of social media threats against schools nationwide. The video below is the result of that collaboration; we hope you’ll take time to watch it. When age-appropriate, please speak to your students about the importance of immediately reporting any threatening social media posts or other communications with local law enforcement officers and/or school officials. We will continue to encourage an environment where students, staff, and families feel empowered to report suspicious activity. Prompt reporting is imperative to our ability to be proactive in maintaining a safe school environment.
Please also remind your students not to forward, repost, or otherwise share possible threats on social media. Widely shared posting makes it exponentially harder to find out where a threat began, and slows down the investigation. Instead, students should be encouraged to take a screenshot of the threat and share it with the police department and our school administrators. If you have questions about a threat, please do not take your questions to social media, as this adds to the complexity of our true understanding of the situation. Help stop the spread of rumors by contacting us directly at central office or by reaching out to your school. Thankfully, most stories spread by rumors are far from the truth.
We truly appreciate our partnership with Eagle families and our local law enforcement personnel to keep our students safe. Your questions and concerns are always welcome, so please take advantage of calling, emailing, or stopping by our offices to learn more.
