The strength of public education lies in the diversity of our students. Joplin Schools is home to a community that includes high-achieving college-bound learners, families across a broad economic spectrum, students with rich artistic and creative talents, mutlitlingual student populations, dedicated athletes and activity-driven learners, and students building foundational skills and confidence.

We grow them ALL.

No matter their starting point or pathway goals, we provide every child a highly effective education that prepares them for college, career, and life in the real world.

State assessments are just one of the many ways we measure student success and growth in Joplin Schools.

These annual opportunities provide us with important touchpoints to guide curriculum improvements, staff development, and departmental goals so we can keep the main thing the main thing: academic excellence in all student groups.

It’s important to note that low student attendance nearly doubles the risk of scoring Below Basic on annual state assessments like MAP and EOC tests, while strong attendance more than doubles the likelihood of scoring Advanced. For more information about the impact of Student Attendance on state assessment scores, please visit our Attendance page.

We know that keeping students engaged with and enthusiastic about their time in school is paramount to their success, so school is structured to provide access not only to excellent core academics and electives, but meaningful, hands-on, experiential learning to inspire curiosity and engagement for all. In addition to engaging learning opportunities, we know that extracurricular activities are crucial for academic success and belonging.

Student involvement in activities enhances time management skills, self discipline, and cognitive focus while reducing stress for our students. Studies indicate participants often have higher GPAs, improved school attendance, and stronger college prospects due to increased engagement, leadership development, and stronger, more tangible connections between classroom learning and real-world application.

There’s something for everyone in Joplin Schools, and we’re ready to help each student find their place.

Explore the Career Academies of Joplin

Each of the Career Academies at JHS offers students a smaller academic home within the greater high school. By aligning their coursework and electives with their current interests and future goals, students explore pathways to their own success while engaging with like-minded peers for a high school experience that is truly tailored to each student’s unique needs..

Lifelong Learners Become Collaborative Leaders

The focus on supporting leadership across the district is our throughline. We reinforce strong staff leadership through competitive regional wage and benefit structures, meaningful professional learning opportunities, the pursuit of personal degree and certificate completion, intentional classroom staffing decisions, deliberate safeguards around team and departmental collaborations, and Career Ladder incentives.
